What to say about our Pastor! A remarkable speaker, anointed prayer warrior, true student of the word and still a humble man. Our pastor is a native Las Vegan, and found his “good thing” in First Lady Sandra Harris and they are the proud parents of four wonderful children; Trey, Nikki, Daniel and Dara. They welcomed another daughter, as their son Trey married the former Ms. Lenita Kyle, and in 2012, a Grandson, Ender, IV.
As a direct descendent of generations of pastors, teachers, evangelists and missionaries, the seed of ministry was evident at an early age. Even in his early years Pastor had a servant’s heart. Working diligently at Vegas View Church, Pastor Daryl was in the youth choir, and Boys Club to name a few. Upon entering adulthood Pastor moved to Arizona with his job, but the call upon his left followed him to Trinity COGIC, where he served under the leadership of Pastor A.D. Hutchins. Shortly after joining Pastor became a member of the choir, Youth Worker, Sunday School Teacher and later the Sunday School Superintendent. What an experience, this time forged his leadership and thirst for the word. Eventually God called him to Las Vegas and upon returning he continued his work for the Lord and accepted the call to ministry!! At Good Shepherd COGIC, under the leadership of Pastor Ernest Harris, he worked faithfully as Sunday School Superintendent and Assistant Pastor and in the Gateway District as District Sunday School Superintendent and District Treasurer. He is also active on the state level as the Vice President of the Holy Ghost Conference for Nevada’s First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction.
Pastor Daryl attended the University of Nevada Las Vegas and is currently pursuing a degree in Church Ministries at Bethany Bible College. Our pastor sincerely believes in meeting people where they are and has positioned himself in the community as a member of the NAACP, and an assistant coach and Chaplin of the Las Vegas Heat Track Club.
Our first lady, Sandra Harris, is a native of Memphis, TN and a true gift to this body of believers. She and “Papa Bear”, Pastor Daryl Harris, have four children; Trey, Nikki, Daniel and Dara. Recently, they were blessed with another daughter, as Trey married the former Ms. Lenita Kyle. She attended historical Lane College in Jackson, Tennessee and the University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV). Her early life is that of a true Levite. Growing up in Rosemark COGIC, where her shepherd was Administrative Assistant Readus Cordell Smith Jr, Lady Sandra started in true “church kid fashion”, Sunshine Band, Purity Class, and the like. Yet singing had a special hold on her; before her teens she was using her gift of song. Soon the Lord moved her to minister on every level, from her local church to the national conventions. Lady Sandra could hardly deny the anointing which was invested in her and before long she was named choir director. She also served in the Sunday School, YPWW, Music, and clerical departments at Rosemark before being swept off her feet by the “debonair gentleman”, Pastor Daryl, and relocating to Las Vegas.
Our first lady is known in the valley for her sincere worship, comical commentary, and simplistic style of teaching (Her “new mantel” is education!!) Lady Sandra believes in the value of education as a means to success and advancing the Kingdom. She has provided an example for continued education; her degree and certificates include, Adult Education, Secondary Education and Public Participation. She is currently securing an additional certification in Environmental Education and Interpretation from UNLV. She has also attended several professional and continuing educational trainings. With her work within the community she has championed scholastic achievement and opportunity creating scholarships and lending herself as mentor to countless youth. Sandra is employed at the Southern Nevada Water Authority, working with educational and public outreach.
A true trailblazer, first lady has brought innovative ideas to every organization she has served with. Including a luncheon for the Business & Professional Women’s Federations (BPWF), which honored pioneering ladies in the community for their leadership and achievements. She also started the Edna M Harris scholarship fund in memory of her late first lady and aunt. She also led the way for HIV/AIDS educational in the Las Vegas valley, partnering with a slew of churches, workshops and conferences.
Lady Sandra also works diligently in the community with various organizations including SISTA to SISTA, USA Track & Field, Nevada Association and is a member of the NAACP. She utilizes her ability to teach at UNLV, the College of Southern Nevada, local and national conventions. Lady Sandra has written curriculums and delivered instruction to area government entities and various other companies through her business, SanJaun. At Bethesda COGIC, she serves as President of the Women’s Department, a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Praise & Worship Team. She serves as the Vice President of the BPWF, Nevada Chapter and the Auxiliaries in Ministry (AIM) Chairlady for the First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the COGIC.
